CYM 5 a-side football Tourament

Following on from their grand-slam European football success, Team UKUSSC were presented with another opportunity to test their footballing skills in the annual CYM (Ukrainian Youth Association) 5 a-side football tournamnet, this year hosted in Bradford.

The supporters were all given an opportunity to stand up and be counted in the squad. Eventually the team places were filled by (from Left to Right): Stepan Luczka, Adam Hnatiw, Maksym Rewko, Andriy Buniak, Martyn Chymera (C), Zenon Dzula, Andriy Luczka.

After meeting at Bradford Ukrainian club the night before, and following initial celebrations of avoiding the group of death, Team UKUSSC were dealt their first blow with the news that Shaktar, and Ukraine International, "Ishchenko" wouldn’t be able to make it. Not to worry, a few quick phone calls and Maksym Rewko was drafted in as a replacement.

Breakfast the next morning was provided courtesy of Mama and Tato Chymera, and the lads took the opportunity to show off their new official supporters club shirts (available to buy for £25) round the town of Cleckheaton. After stopping for some key purchases (shirts for the evening), and customary visiting-team photos the boys headed off to the sports center to make their debut in the competition.

The tournament started brilliantly with team clearly the best dressed sporting the new Team UKUSSC kit, however, this turned out to be the high point as the team lost their opening game. A few draws gave the team some hope, but not even regular tweet updates (@UAsupportersUK) by Petro Chymera were enough to drive the team on to a win.

The team came close to victory several times with Stepan Luczka
converting his customary penalty, Adam Hnatiw playing some blog worthy football, and Zenon Dzula just about managing to calm down, but with only two games left, the pressure was on to avoid a humiliating bottom of the table result. With front man Andriy Luczka reduced to one ankle after a crushing Simon Cyhanko tackle, Martyn Chymera and Andriy Buniak switched positions, and following a quick prayer to footballing god and greatest man in the world, Oleg Luhzny, some silky passing and precision finishing helped the club notch up their first and only victory 5-3 against eventual group table toppers Derby. this was enough to avoid a bottom finish, and the lads could go for a well earned shower without the wooden spoon. Nottingham were the eventual tournament winners beating the hosts Bradford A in the finals.

All the teams returned to Bradford Ukrainian club "Lyman" for a hearty meal which then gave way for post match drinks and partying to the sounds of The Ukrainains well into the early hours.

Team UKUSSC will have to go back to the drawing board and think of a new plan for their next potential fixture against Stoke FC Supporters in December!

Manchester City v Dynamo Kyiv

Over 100 of our members travelled to Manchester to watch Dynamo get through to the quarter finals of the Europe League. Fans gathered ahead of the match and dressed in team colours and full of song, walked together to The City of Manchester Stadium.

The 1-0 loss on the night proved irrelevant as the team went through 2-1 over two legs.

Borussia Dortmund v Karpaty Lviv, 2 December 2010

Fourteen club members travelled to Germany to watch an exciting Europa League tie.

Despite the result they still had an amazing time, and judging by the photos, the cold wasn't too much of a problem...
